“For Love Not Money” is the 15th Tallinn Print Triennial, one of the best-known and most influential exhibitions in the Baltic region (established in 1968).  It is an event that has a medium-based focus on "graphic art / print art" and its development  and role within contemporary art forms. For the first time and especially for the “Tallinn European Capital of Culture 2011” the Triennial was being staged in its entirety at KUMU Estonian Art Museum; and was presented as the opening event of the Tallinn 2011 contemporary art programme.

The exhibition included the work of 109 artists from 35 countries, who represent 4 generations of art making. The theme and title of the exhibition “For Love Not Money” was addressed to the situation of contemporary art, and culture, in times of global financial crisis and the ways in which art can address different aspects of the social and cultural fall outs of such an event.

Makoto Aida's work is the first example of such large-scale work by an important Japanese contemporary artist exhibited in the KUMU Estonian Art Museum. The work should educate audiences on the interconnection of traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques, and symbolism, within Japanese contemporary art.

The large-scale solo exhibition by Makoto Aida was also held at the CAC, Vilnius (Lithuania) from 13 Apr. to 22 May 2011.

Date: 20 Jan. - 8 May 2011
