Work of “Inner Landscapes” project
Inner Landscapes project is a collaboration project by Japanese ceramic artists Satoko Sai + Tomoko Kurahara, and photographer Marja Pirilä together with nurse Ritva Muurinen. Based on interviews the artists had with local old people in living in Turku, they will create an exhibition at Turku Castle featuring ceramics, photographs and video that will present a very personal take on Turku's history and how it relates to the present day. This exhibition will travel to municipal old people's home in Turku, where the models of this project live.
Marja Pirilä is a photographer based in Tampere, Finland. Pirilä has held exhibitions in Finland and abroad, and published a number of photography books and received the National Award for Photography in 2000.
Satoko Sai + Tomoko Kurahara is a Japanese ceramic artist unit based in Tokyo. After both graduating from Tama Art University in 2002, Kurahara studied in Finland and Sai studied in Korea. Since 2002, they started collaboration work and have exhibited in Japan and in Finland.
