Yukio Suzuki & his company KINGYO will search the “body” “physical presence” through the schedule of 2011. In overseas, one is Yukio Suzuki company will take part in Sibiu International Theatre Festival. This is first time for this company to make a performance in Europe. And also, they place great importance on not only performances, but also exchange with local artists and other people. They try to think about how they can appeal to the society through their activities.

Yukio Suzuki company

Yukio Suzuki studied butoh at the Asbestos-kan from 1997 and danced in the works of Ko Murobushi and other artists. In 2000 he started the group “Yukio Suzuki company”. He gained attention in the dance world for his documentary style of directing and choreography that uses compelling placement of dancers with a strong emphasis on their physical presence. In recent years he has expanded his activities as a choreographer with projects like choreographing for dancers of the Tokyo City Ballet Company and participating in the Asian Dance Conference. In 2008, his work “Confronting Silence” received the Grand-prix at the Toyota Choreography Awards. And he participated in Hong Kong Art Festival, TBA Festival, Dance Triennale TOKYO, etc.
