Gallery_Program

The core activities are the Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program, Studio Program and the not-for-profit gallery program as well as the community art activities such as an annual open air art exhibition. As a "studio (kobo)" for "you and play (you)", Youkobo respects and supports artists' initiatives and offers opportunities to the wider audience where they experience and familiarize themselves with art. To date Youkobo has welcomed about 160 artists from 20 countries and held exhibitions of more than 100 Japan-based artists to serve as a space for international artistic exchange. Youkobo also actively involved in national and international Artist in residency networks, participating conferences and meetings. This year is its 10th anniversary so Youkobo keeps up efforts to carry out its programs as well as to develop visions of projects and activities for the future.

Youkobo Art Space

'Studio Youkobo' had offered creative studios and art classes in the old clinic and sanatorium building since the late 70s and in 1989, launched Artist in Residency (AIR) program for overseas artists. With the renovation of the building to facilitate studios, gallery and residence spaces, 'Youkobo ART SPACE' was established in 2001 to actively develop art activities for the local community as well as for cross-cultural understanding and international exchanges.
