After successful representation of Japanese contemporary artists in the exhibitions "Big in Japan" (2009), X Baltic Triennial of International Art "Urban Stories" (2009) and 14th Vilnius Painting Triennial "False Recognition" (2010) the Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius, is aiming to continue presenting Japanese contemporary art to Lithuanian audience. One of the most interesting Japanese artists noticed during the very first research visits of the CAC curators in Japan (2008) was Makoto Aida.
Since then the CAC has started planning the extensive solo show of this artist in Vilnius.
Makoto Aida has covered most of the artistic angles with an oeuvre that includes manga, painting, video, and installation, executed with such a wide range of expressive qualities that it is difficult to believe all could have been created by a single artist - that is why big solo show is the most convenient way to present his artistic practice. Most of young Japanese artists met during the research trips regarded Makoto Aida as their mentor or mentioned his name as one the most influential contemporary artists. It is especially interesting to present Makoto Aida with newly produced artworks, related to Vilnius.
