mahoroba organization Turku 2011 - European Capital of Culture / Helsinki, Finland
mahoroba

The mahoroba organization will have exhibition, workshop and seminar at Helsinki Design Week and Turku Book Fair to appeal Japanese culture, and assimilate Japanese and Finnish culture. They introduce Japanese lifestyle, design, and culture. Then, they hope Finnish people can experience and feel Japanese culture at the exhibition. The project "mahoroba" named after old Japanese which means a comfortable, great place to be.
At the first year of mahoroba project, they try to make Japanese culture more accessible in Finland. In 2012, Helsinki will be named "World Design Capital", which means Helsinki draw an international attention. They have already had an exhibition in 2011 so that their program will be a part of the event next year.
Last year, the HIRAMEKI exhibition introduced Finnish design and culture to Japanese audiences. With that background, they assume that there is more chance to enhance cultural and design exchange between Japan and Finland. For instance, Heini Riitahuhta had already designed Furoshiki, Japanese traditional towel for a Japanese company; so they will have seminar during "mahoroba" exhibition.
They hope that "mahoroba" will develop design, technical, economic and business relations between Finland and Japan in the long run.
