The decision to host the European Capital of Culture is made after a bidding process, and the host city is chosen from among the finalists.

On September 25 (local time), Lublin, Poland, one of the host countries of the European Capital of Culture 2029, was recommended as the host city. In addition to Lublin, Bielsko-Biała, Katowice, and Kołobrzek were participating in the bidding.

Lublin is the capital of the Lubelskie province in eastern Poland and is the political, industrial, and economic center of the region. The city has many parks and forests, and is a green and serene provincial city.

European Capital of Culture 2029 will be held in Poland and Sweden. The two finalists participating in the Swedish bid are the northern city of Kiruna and  Uppsala in the central region.
