Yamamoto Yuki - PLACE OF HELLO exhibition
An ingenious art exhibition that defies limitations
MIKIKO SATO Gallery, which has been introducing Japanese contemporary art and artists in Hamburg for many years, presented Yuki Yamamoto's solo exhibition, "PLACE OF HELLO," which opened on October 31 and featured works that cannot be experienced through catalogs or other two-dimensional information. The exhibition for the three-dimensional works with simple circles as the main motif, consisting of 10 to 12 acrylic layers, aimed at letting German museums, curators, and residents experience the structure of Yamamoto's works that cannot be conveyed through photographs, and also to promote interest in Japanese contemporary art. The preparations had been underway since 2018. Although Mr Yamamoto was unable to travel to Hamburg, he was able to present the gallery virtually via Skype, creating an opportunity for direct dialogue between gallery visitors and the artist. Ms Mikiko Sato, the owner of the gallery, recalls that this solo exhibition gave her a chance to experience a different way of running a gallery and to devise a new exhibition method, and she is eager to plan more exhibitions.
