Film Production: "City of a Thousand Suns"
A pray for peace beyond time and place.
The film “City of a Thousand Suns” was produced as part of the European Capital of Culture Galway 2020 program, with filming taken place in Hiroshima and Dublin in 2019. The film is based on an Irish poem “Aifreann na Marbh (Mass of the Dead)” by Galway-born poet Eoghan O Tuairisc, dedicated to those who died in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima at the end of World War II. The film uses images, sound, and visuals to create a unique world view of the poem that moves between Dublin and Hiroshima, between the present and the past.
A director, Ms. Paula Kehoe visited Japan in October 2019 to film in Hiroshima and to build a cooperative relationship with the Japan Film Commission and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. She also conducted interviews with people who were exposed to radiation in Hiroshima.
The film will be screened at international film festivals in 2021 and will be broadcast in Ireland by TG4, Ireland's national television station.
