Focus On: Japan at the 2020 Galway Film Fleadh
The international film festival’s new challenge and passion for Japanese films
Galway Film Fleadh is a film festival which has introduced a variety of films and gathered many audiences and people involved in film industries for nearly 30 years. The festival annually holds “Country-in-Focus” programs by featuring film works in one specific country. In 2020, Japanese films were featured in the program.
The Program Director of the festival, Mr. William Fitzgerald visited Japan last autumn as his research travel. He established cooperative relationships with Japanese film makers and selected film works for screenings in Galway.
Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, delivering programs as originally planned became difficult. However, the film festival held its online edition on 7-12 July and distributed three Japanese films. Programs of the Galway Film Fleadh online was streamed across Ireland and it enabled more people to join the festival. The new initiative made a great success.
