TAPESTRY 2020 International Tapestry Symposium and Exhibition (online)

Tradition and the future of creativity woven by tapestries

“Project Baa Baa” is a project to reconsider the contribution of Irish sheep farming to the culture, economy, and environment, as well as the associated traditions of art, craft, food, and other aspects of life, and to showcase their diversity. As one of them, the project focused on tapestry, which has a history of thousands of years and is still evolving with new materials and methods by contemporary artists.
The exhibition "Tapestry 20/20" featured works by renowned contemporary tapestry artists from around the world. 42 works had arrived at the site though, the number of works was limited because of the pandemic. However, a stunning exhibition was created at Claregalway Castle.
Eight contemporary artists also participated in the symposium, "What is Tapestry? and talked about the future as a method of creative expression in the context of contemporary art. From Japan, Ms. Yasuko Fujino who is a professor at Kyoto City University of Arts and artist participated in the symposium. Her brilliant work and her approach to tapestry were well presented.
This year's exhibition was entirely held online and over the course of the exhibition, it was viewed by more than 1,000 viewers, reaching an even wider global audience than usual. This new achievement will lead to future activities of Tapestry around the world.
