Ten years since Turku 2011. People's stories spun through photography and ceramics

The Finnish photographer Marja Pirilä and the ceramic artists Satoko Sai + Tomoko Kurahara interviewed elderly people living in the area, collected their life histories. Their project “inner Landscapes" visualized them as a broad portrait that encompasses the surrounding landscape and the overlapping of time. After the implementation at Turku 2011 (Finland), a Japanese version of the project was launched in 2018 through interviews with eight elderly people living in Tokyo. The project is completed with a series of fantastic photographic works by Ms Pirilä using the camera obscura technique, multi-layered ceramic works by Satoko Sai + Tomoko Kurahara, and an edited video of the interviews. Unveiled in March 2021 as the exhibition "Inner Landscapes, Tokyo", the works gave visitors an insight into the lives of the interviewees and were accompanied by an online artist talk and an online dialogical appreciation. Now, the project is planned for another touring exhibition in Finland.
