GETXOPHOTO International Image Festival 2020
A new development, after the participation of more than 200 photographers in the International Photography Festival
One of the main features of the international photography festival Getxophoto in the Basque Country of Spain is that many of the exhibitions take place outdoors, and this year's festival, now in its 14th year, is curated by John Uriarte. The theme was "To the Streets!" and they tried to exhibit in more diverse locations. Public spaces are places where people meet and play, but they are also places to discuss shared issues and topics of our time. Getxophoto continues to challenge itself to protect that space, to talk about it through the photographs on display, and to create new dialogues. Having pioneered new exhibition venues, this year's festival also featured an online program, as well as an exhibition of video and virtual reality (VR) work. “Diorama Map" by photographer Sohei Nishino, created by collaging a large number of snapshots, was displayed at the Algorta market and the outside wall of the restaurant. The work, which changes its view depending on the distance, grabbed the hearts of visitors and became one of the most visited spots during the festival.
