VR Dance Performance "WHIST" at TEMPORA CONTEMPORA #2
A new fusion of body and technology brought to Italy
Mr Franco Ungaro was the coordinator of the theatre performance “Humana Vergogna (Human Shame)” at Matera 2019 (Italy). Then, the second edition of TEMPORA CONTEMPORA, an international performing arts festival in Lecce, southern Italy, which he curates, took place at the end of August and lasted almost four weeks. The UK-based performance company AΦE (Aoi Nakamura & Esteban Formi) was invited to present their work WHIST, for the first time in Italy. Using Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), each participant sees different performances/scenes while they are in the same room. The work was performed over two days, and all six performances were fully booked. Enjoyed by the students of the Liceo Artistico high school in Lecce, the work presented new possibilities for how new technologies can interact with the body in theatrical works, which is the core concept for the festival.
