Rethinking and looking at everyday life that is all too familiar and overlooked

Map JapanLaunched in 1999, the “European Eyes on Japan / Japan Today” photography project bring engaging photographers from the various countries of Europe to Japan to rediscover in their work aspects of our contemporary environment that we have taken for granted and overlooked.
Their work is shown in exhibitions in Europe and in the Japanese prefectures where they worked. In Europe, this is an opportunity to reach beyond stereotypes and expose viewers to the Japan of today. These works will then be left to future generations as a cultural heritage documenting various parts of Japan at the beginning of the 21st century.
The project is scheduled to continue every year and to cover all 47 Japanese prefectures.

*A part of artworks of this project and its previous photography project “Tokyo Today” are added to a collection of “Higashikawa Bunka Gallery” in Higashikawa, Hokkaido, referred to as the Town of Photography.
