“Karada no Keshiki”is the performance group produced by Itaru Okano. It was formed in 2007.
On the process of creating our pieces, we are always aware of the Japanese view on nature, “Our body and soul are always a part of the universe” as part of our important identity.
We discovered that our physicality and mentality have been developed though the culture based on this view. It generated our unique physicality (especially foot, abdomen, and breathing) and the oriental idea for space (i.e, being silent, simple and blank). We create our piece to advance the physicality and mentality.
Today, there are a number of conflicts between religion, race and nations all over the world. Sadly, it has been getting harder to solve the conflicts even though we have tried. In these circumstances, we believe that it is important for us to recognize the oriental view on nature again. We might be able to find the tiny hint to change these circumstances by realizing we are only taking up a small part of the universe.
In the performance of “Karada no Keshiki”, we often use the character of ghost and spirit which are based on the animism. These characters always get us to re-appreciate our everyday life. Through our performances, we aim to create within our audience this same sense of animism and their role in the universe. Hopefully, this gives them a greater appreciation for art and life in general.
