Lately I have been feeling more and more sadness and love for the sights I see. I have been thinking about why. The world is created and disappears moment by moment. It is like a wave. To take a photograph is to be confronted with a world that is independent of the present, the past, and the future. and the world independent of the present, the past, and the future. Perhaps the act of photography is an abstract act of facing a world that is unstable and in flux. Perhaps photography is an abstract expression of facing a world that is unstable and in flux. There is a phrase that I like to use: "Shusho ichido. It is the philosophy of Dogen, the founder of Zen. It is the idea that practice itself is enlightenment. When I take pictures, I strongly feel that I am not an observer, but an involved participant.
