New ideas through constraints, experiments and encounters
“subnet", a platform for media art and experimental technology, organises an annual artist-in-residence programme "subnetAIR", in which artists collaborate with researchers from the Centre for Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Salzburg. The artist Mr Katsuki Nogami, who took part in the WRO Media Art Biennale in Wrocław, Poland, participated in this year’s residency. During the festival, there was also a Schmiede festival, which positioned the diverse participants, from artists to computer programmers, as "blacksmiths". Mr Nogami presented his work “Skin Record”, a 3D video work. Through VR goggles, it showed a mixed image of his scanned “face,” urban landscape and the lift in which the work was installed. The video work intertwined real forms with unreal elements and was enjoyed by many visitors, especially children. The residency, which also included a number of networking sessions, has given the artist the opportunity to further develop his international practice.
