#MeetECoC! 10 years after Turku 2011(Finland); “inner landscapes, tokyo”

Marja Pirilä:Camera obscura/ Hirotaka, Tokyo, 2018/2020

Finnish photographer Marja Pirilä and ceramic artists Satoko Sai + Tomoko Kurahara have been working together on an art project called “inner landscapes”, in which they interview local elderly people, collect their life histories and visualise them as portraits in the broadest sense, encompassing the surrounding landscape and the overlapping of time. The artists have been working together since the inception of this programme in Turku 2011 (Finland).
In 2018, the artists began to work on a Japanese version of the project through interviews with eight elderly people living in Tokyo.  The exhibition featuring photographs by Pirilä using a camera obscura, ceramics by Satoko Sai + Tomoko Kurahara, and a video compilation of the interviews finally opened on 1 April at Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery. Now, the video from the online artists’ talk on 13 March is available on YouTube. You can visit the exhibition and see the video until 16 May. We hope you’ll enjoy both of them this wonderful occasion!
