Chemnitz 2025 (Germany)
*ENG below
Chemnitz, the city selected as the European Capital of Culture 2025 in Germany is located in the German federal state of Saxony and third city of the region after Leipzig and Dresden.
The city was established in the 12th century and prospered in textile production and trade in the medieval era. Then, the city substantially grew as an industrial center in the 19th century and was often called “the Saxon Manchester”. After the World War II, the city belonged to the German Democratic Republic as “Karl-Marx-Stadt” though, the city retrieved the name of Chemnitz after the reunification of Germany.
With the slogan “C the Unseen – European Makers of Democracy”, Chemnitz 2025 has been delivered a variety of activities in collaboration with local people!
Keep your eyes on the activation of further preparatory activities.
Another host city of the European Capital of Culture 2025 in Slovenia will be selected this month.
Next week, we will introduce activities in Matera (Italy) and Plovdiv (Bulgaria), the last year’s European Capitals of Culture. See you next week!
