I am a choreographer who creates an image through physical movements. I am fascinated by the variable fragility and unalterable strength of human beings and the beauty in between. For me, the definition of “creation is how I see myself/how I face my own weakness.
My work shares many aspects with installation art, designed for the audience to experience it as a whole space. They are presented not only in theaters but also in a variety of environments. Because I value the multifaceted nature of things, I work with artists from various genres such as dancers, musicians, actors and writers, to create my work freely without being limited to a specific format. With a movement method influenced by release technique and Simonson technique, I create my own movements around a neutral flow based on body structure.
My creative process focuses on how the various opposing elements can be balanced and coexist (e.g. movement and motionlessness, brightness and darkness, noise and silence). By combining seemingly contradictory situations and making high contrasts, I aim to appeal directly to the visual and auditory senses of the audience and enable them to fully feel the space I create.
I get inspiration for my work from the questions raised from my emotions and statements. While what motivates me to start creation is personal, I identify how my theme is connected to society. From the perspective of “individuals existence and “relationships with others in society, I develop a hypothesis about my own questions and pose it to the audience. I strive to inspire those who engage with my work from a different angle, and to present an opportunity to think about the issues people encounter in their lives which are invisible but exist nonetheless.
