Holding a Japanese Lieder(=Songs) Workshop Introduction and instruction of Japanese songs. Performing Japanese Lieder(=Songs) and other classical music in general Details of the objectives of the Japanese Lieder Workshop are as follows: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This workshop is for overseas music students who want to learn "Japanese Lieder". Japan has a long history, and as a result, Japanese music has its own melodies, instruments, performance techniques, and singing style that have been passed down for over 1,000 years. Japan has been isolated from the outside world for over 200years, and has developed its own sophisticated culture without foreign influence. The long period of isolation ended 150 years ago. Since then, Japan has actively imported foreign culture and incorporated it into its cultural life. Foreign music was mainly learned from Germany and France. Later, Japanese musicians developed "Japanese Lieder" that use European music theory and techniques to perform the essence of traditional Japanese music. We are singer and pianist who studied European music. We would like to introduce "Japanese Lieder" that have developed in modern times and continue to develop to the present. These songs express the essence of Japan using European musical techniques, so they are familiar to Europeans and not difficult to play and to sing.
