Utako Toyama is an acclaimed composer and the inaugural recipient of the Hiroshima Award. She founded the global collective band, SkyBridge and co-founded a global initiative, Songs for World Peace, where she also serves as director. Additionally, she has been granted exceptional talent visas by both the U.S. and the UK, where she now resides in London. Her mission is to advance diversity, equity, and world peace through her musical compositions and leadership abilities. Upon receiving a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, Toyama established SkyBridge, a band with a global outreach that aims to foster diversity, equity, and world peace. This is achieved through collaborative performances with musicians worldwide, engaging audiences to create unique, immersive experiences. She has led projects involving musicians from over 47 countries, including Grammy winners Victor Wooten and Mark Walker. Through Songs for World Peace, she has collaborated with artists from more than 90 nations and worked with organizations like UN Women SF Chapter, Hiroshima City, Mayors for Peace, Berklee College of Music, and Musicians Without Borders.
