In 18-19 century the minister of royal entertainment was created for the Burmese culture and Youk-The Pwe troupes thrived and developed under royal patronage. Youk-The Pwe is the now most popular Burmese traditional puppet.

Masahiro Usami

Manda-la Project with COVID-19

Mr. Masahiro Usami, who carried out the project “Manda-la in Cyprus” at European Capital of Culture Pafos 2017 (Cyprus), has started a new project “Manda-la Project with COVID-19”! He calls for participants to film the scenery not only of Tokyo but also many places around the world. Please have a look at the project and join his project!

★Message from Artist★

We are making video work on the theme of COVID-19. In the film, we connect the scenes of Tokyo, where the state of emergency has been declared, with the scenes of various foreign cities in lockdown. People of the world, young and old, men and women, regardless of social and economic position, are in the same situation.
By stitching together scenes from around the world where people have disappeared, we want to express how people are connected to each other. We will continue to film until the time of the Tokyo Olympics, and then we will finish our work.
